Who are these people?

In an effort to help gauge the safety of mass gatherings, 5,000 volunteers recently attended Europe’s largest indoor concert since the Covid outbreak began. All attendees agreed to be tested two weeks prior to the show and afterwards to see if anyone picked up the virus in this crowded setting. Only 6 people eventually developed the virus and authorities are convinced that four of those cases were unrelated to this hospital sponsored event.

Do you ever wonder who the folks are who willingly offer themselves as Guinea pigs for stuff like this? Not to be snooty, but it wasn’t exactly Beyonce in concert.

Which got me thinking..

What (who) would it take for me to attend a large event like that during a pandemic? I’d probably risk it (fully vaccinated) for Andrea Bocelli, Elton John of course, Michael Buble..maybe even Jimmy Buffet..but that’s about it.

The band performing at this event in Barcelona was the locally popular Spanish group ‘Love of Lesbian’

..so yeah.

🤔

No.

Anyway..

I marvel at (and am grateful for) people who are willing to put themselves at risk to advance the cause of science.. I always wonder who these folks are and how they find out about these “opportunities..”

Are they compensated?

What if something goes wrong and they get sick?

Are their medical bills paid?

And how about the recent testing that has begun to see if these Covid vaccines are safe for babies and young kids? Are there parents out there volunteering their children for testing?

How exactly does that work..I mean ethically?

Legally..

What can I say..this is the stuff I think about while I brush my teeth.

Technically, and I know you’re going to hate me saying this, as the vaccine was given emergency status and is not fully approved for use in the US, we are all Guinea pigs….😆
