It struck me (once again) as I searched for my missing wedding ring last week, that I am surrounded by clutter.. clutter being anything I am not using or don’t need.
Every drawer I open, every closet, the pantry, the console in my car… there’s just extra stuff everywhere that’s unnecessary. Trust me when I tell you, I’m not at hoarding-level here (far from it) this is more like “life-lint”..most of it probably only obvious to me..but still, it’s irksome.
I have been working on a photo project for the past few months, organizing and scanning all of our old, family pictures. Half way through this project, my lap top started bogging down, it’s just too full of clutter.. which led me to take a deep dive into what exactly I have stored on my computer.
Zikes.. there’s Clutter..and lots of it.
I had almost 17,000 e-mails. My husband said it wasn’t a big-gig-deal, but it’s all a big deal to me right now because I just hated knowing it was there. And so I started purging and wow, does it feel great. For the past week, whenever I find myself with some time, I simply go into my e-mail and type something into my search bar..select them all.. and press delete..
Pottery Barn..547 e-mails..select all…delete.
Amazon..1,745 e-mails..select all..delete.
Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, Home Depot, Publix.. hundreds of e-mails..select all..delete.
Then I “empty” the trash.
I am down to 1,959 e-mails.
It’s a bit like having an organized underwear drawer, no one else will know, but I do.. and it feels great!
Now, on to tackle my 16,000 photos.
