My husband and I have scheduled our first vacation for fall of 2021. It’s an easy drive straight up I-95 to two of our favorite southern cities: Charleston and Savannah. Favorite cities, favorite hotels, favorite restaurants.. it’s so exciting to have a trip scribbled in my planner again!
“What if you don’t get your vaccines in time, what if you have to cancel?”
So here’s the deal, planning this vacation is totally worth the risk of possibly being disappointed, why?
NEXTING is the act of planning things in the future that we look forward to and feel good about today. Kathy Gottberg writes in her article about nexting that the happiness dividend of a vacation starts paying out long before we pack our suitcases. A study out of the Netherlands found that a huge mood-boost from even a short vacation precedes the trip by about 8 weeks- which led the experts to recommend planning several mini-vacations a year for maximum wellness benefits.
But nexting doesn’t just happen when we plan a vacation, nexting happens when we plan anything. Unfortunately, 2020 had the smothering effect of temporarily paralyzing this ability to plan into the future..
Here’s to reclaiming that most basic desire in 2021, here’s to hope!
