What I learned this week..

#1- Carpe Diem because life can really suck when you get old. Sometimes you reach this grey zone of inverse realities where the daily fight to stay alive keeps getting harder while the reasons to continue battling keep fading. Nothing too much you can do about it except live the heck out of every healthy, purpose-filled day right now!

#2-Enjoy your stay at Hotel Corona. I had a dream last night that I accidentally got into a service elevator that only stopped on one floor of a high rise hotel. The doors closed on me in the lobby before I could squeeze out and didn’t open again until I reached the 111th floor. There was a concierge lounge with amazing food up there, a gorgeous indoor swimming pool and views of the city that were incredible. I could tell that other guests were around but never could get close enough to talk to anyone. I didn’t have a key to any room on that floor and couldn’t find the elevator to leave. It was incredibly distressing until I decided to relax in my, not at all awful, surroundings and just accept that this was where I’d be until…

Weird huh?

#3- My husband and I watched a profoundly disturbing (and important) documentary on Netflix entitled “The Social Dilemma.” If you are a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram user, you simply MUST watch this presentation. If you wonder why and how the streets of our country (and others) can instantly be flooded with agitated people looking to break things and hurt people, you need to hear from these former executives. If you are disturbed by the rise in suicides among teens- you should understand the causes. Concerned that you can’t stop scrolling? Find out why you do it.

Be prepared.. once you realize how you are being manhandled, misled, molded and managed by these kazillion dollar social media geniuses who pimp out your profile to the highest bidder and curate all the information you are fed (think Truman Show) you may get tik-tok-ed enough to break your addiction. As one of the interviewees ominously said, “If you aren’t paying for the service, you’re the product.”

Yikes.

Buy hey-have a great week-end. 😉

    • Meh..don’t give me too much credit regarding the dream..free pool, free food..HA! But I was running up and down the halls looking for a way out..so that was super upsetting. The Netflix thing.. everyone needs to see it. I never gave much thought as to why all these young folks who work for (and founded) these companies are SO, SO, SOO crazy stinking rich..where is the actual money coming from?? I used to think it was from advertisers..that’s just a TINY part of the story..it is SO much darker. 😫

  2. 3. I haven’t seen it, but I just asked someone the other day….if we have all these choices and life style things now. Why are kids killing themselves and have addiction issues in record numbers? We’re doing all these thing for acceptance and yet people are less happy than ever

    • You have GOT to watch this..omg. It’s one thing to think that Walmart is sending you ads for what they know you want..but it’s SOOO much worse than that..Facebook was severely implicated..and Zuckerberg..not to be rude, but this guy..have you ever heard him (try to) talk? He created this Frankenstein and now cannot control how bad actors are using it.. as one person said- the genie is loose..there’s no stuffing it back in. For all these shocked parents whose kids are being arrested in the streets right now..scratch your head no more as to why this is happening! SO FREAKING SCARY!

      • Have you seen the toddlers in the strollers watching movies on phones? 😨 Their need for media pacification will be through the roof when they get older.. all parents need to see this documentary..

      • I know! Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you need to do it!

      • One of the people interviewed said we are now at the age where kids never knew life without all this crap..again, not to be rude, but poor Zuckerberg has some real social anxiety or something..it’s almost like he invented this alternate platform for communication and “friendships” cause he struggled in the real world with it? And now we’ve created a generation of kids who are socially dependent on this framework and yet also ripe fruit for those who want to control them…it’s AWFUL!!! Makes my stomach hurt..

      • You’ve had a tough go lately….but basically I wrote that fictionally, some heads of companies engineered a virus so they could control the world…

      • oh….you have SOO got to watch this thing.. you could have written that part..it’s in there..it’s actually in this documentary. PS- My husband and I were on a 21 day break from alcohol… it expires tomorrow..not a moment too soon.

  3. Besides the online bullying that so many young people have to deal with is the pressure to compete with unrealistic memes and other social media pressures. I have read a few articles about the dangers of social media in general and for present and upcoming generations in particular. It is very worrisome.

  4. I’ve always thought that the control social media has on us is scary. This validates that worry!

    • Oh my gosh- this documentary kept me up that night. The control and the manipulation was much worse than I imagined..and it’s flat out the GOAL. sheesh! I keep going back to one thing…how did these guys get so crazy rich so fast if I don’t have to pay anything to use their platforms??? It’s kind of like a rich congress person..how do they become so rich if their salaries are not that big?
