“To wear or not to wear” .. that is no longer the question.
According to a recent article I read, the new debate is whether or not it’s appropriate to wear “pretty,” customized, fun or funny masks during these perilous times. Is wearing a happy pastel, kitty cat print, patriotic or floral patterned mask during COVID the equivalent of wearing a sequined dress to a funeral?
Is it offensive?
Does it make light of the seriousness of this disease?
Honestly, I think we are running low on subjects to fuss about. Every week a piece of fresh meat is tossed into the ring and we obediently all jump in and tear each other apart over it ..but this?
This is a cookie crumb of a controversy.
Down here in the South women especially have taken full fashion ownership of their masks. Creativity, patriotism and hilarity abound- naturally so do Lilly Pulitzer prints..
Is that so wrong?
My feeling is this: express yourself! Please leave the swear words off your face, but other than that..have at it! Support your team, promote your business, match your socks. If what’s on your mask causes another person to smile today, so much the better..and yes, you can tell by their eyes.
And speaking of eyes, all eyes are on (and prayers are with) Texas and Louisiana as they deal with this storm..on top of Covid. 😩 Destruction comes in two forms..the kind we inflict upon ourselves and the kind that we have no control over. At times like this, it is especially hard to imagine that anyone would participate in the purposeful destruction of any community.
