What did I learn this week?

I learned that cauliflower hummus is a great alternative to butter on baked potatoes. Just ladle on a tablespoon or two and enjoy the creaminess and flavor.

I learned that being judgmental can have long term implications. Case in point..I always thought it was ridiculous to put dogs in “baby carriages.” And now here I am getting ready to buy one for our 2 year old dog because she simply cannot handle the Florida heat on our long, morning walks. We could just keep her home..or I can swallow my ‘pride and prejudice’ against pet strollers and simply solve the problem so she can continue to join us as we all get our exercise; I chose the latter.

(Yeah..I know..)

I learned quite a bit about Indian culture this week watching a fascinating Netflix series called Indian Matchmaking. What started out as a seemingly light-hearted documentary about successful, young Indians searching for love with the help of a traditional matchmaker, eventually exposed the seriously dark and oppressive weight of relentless cultural expectations, bigotry, classism, judgement and family pressure. After binge-watching the entire series, I went online to read a few commentaries about the program and was not at all surprised to see that I wasn’t the only one pretty saddened by what I saw. This is a thought-provoking presentation that will no doubt lead to many discussions about all sorts of related subjects. Surprisingly compelling TV.

I learned this week how hard so many people are working on behalf of others to keep our society functioning during this extremely difficult time. Every day these folks have to navigate through the gaggles of naysayers, doomsdayers and those who seem to be perversely rooting for failure. My favorite newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, took media giants to task a few days ago in a devastating op ed accusing them of indulging in, and distributing, “pandemic porn.” All of this making my decision not to support that industry by watching, clicking and reading that much more important to me. I don’t want to look back at this moment in history and find that I contributed to the darkness-no way.

Have a WONDERFUL week-end everyone!!

PS– Is anyone else struggling with the new WordPress editor ??? 🤯

Did you watch it? A few of the articles I read were written by Indians who really took the whole concept of matchmaking (and everything that’s involved with it) to task..super interesting stuff. Honestly, I felt bad for all of the participants..the updates on a few of these couples was surprising too..esp the last guy who had the big engagement party.. 😳

Oooh….I missed the updates! Where did you find them? I found the whole thing sooo interesting! But I’m always blessed with soul mates, and how we choose partners and all that! Plus, the cultural differences! When the mom told her son her bp issues were directly related to his being 25 and not married!

At first i thought it was all kind of charming..and then I became more mortified and felt TERRIBLE for the “kids.” I can’t even IMAGINE putting that kind of pressure on my kids..and frankly if I did, they’d tell me to go pound sand anyway-One of the updates I read was on vanity fair..but I think I just googled for updates.. Hey..while you are there..be honest (I can handle it) are you having a hard time with the new word press editor? I am so frustrated I feel like pitching the whole thing..boxes popping up everywhere..I mean holy cow!

Ok…small truth…I normally blog using my computer and it hasn’t forced me to update the site yet so I’m still using the old editor. But when I do my highlights post I do it off my iPad and I’m fine with that, but I’m just posting pictures. I fear that the new editor will bring me heartache….I have a feeling that they’re trying to get us to buy our sites because the thing I read yesterday talked about all the great features that will be unveiled soon with the new editor for premium members

Mine must have updated automatically. It’s absolutely awful..I have to figure out a way to undo it.
