One Hope

I don’t know about you, but it seems as if we’re stuck in a time-loop, doesn’t it?

You wake up every morning and for a few seconds there are no thoughts, just simple, peaceful consciousness..

But then the familiar rising water ..

What are the Covid numbers today?

Are my kids still healthy?

Are we going to have a surge because thousands of people are screaming in the streets?

What if?

What then?

Has the looting stopped?

Are my kids safe in their terribly dangerous cities?

Will my mom be safe at the dentist?

And then the engine starts.. the grinding fear.

All of these months,

and days of building worry

turns into anger..

(..and I haven’t even gotten out of bed!)

So then I pray..immediately.

I pray for the strength to not only face another day, (because what good is only that??) but to reflect the goodness and mercy and LOVE of God.. the strength to confidently present the truth, and the HOPE that comes with it… not in words alone (because again, what good is only that??) but in deeds that make a difference.

I pray for God to release me from anger’s ever tightening grip because I see clearly where it leads..

And I pray that I am able to crush the fear I have inside; the fear of threats that are both visible and invisible..the fear that keeps me tucked into my small corner of the world and focused primarily on self-preservation.

The salvation of our souls, the mending of our hearts and the soothing of our anxieties  cannot be brought about by legislation or programs.. money earned, money stolen, illegal drugs, legal drugs, alcohol, possessions (pilfered or purchased) or any politician on earth. There is no immunization that can save us from the side-effects and complications of being human and living on this earth.

We have ONE HOPE:

I can so relate to this. It’s been such a strange few months. The only thing to cling to is hope in Christ.
