A mother’s love for her child is probably the best example we can find on earth that most closely reflects God’s love for us. A mother will visit a guilty son on death row every day because of this profound maternal love. I’m not saying a dad wouldn’t do the same, but there’s something different about the love a mother has for the children she brings into this world.
Imagine if you grew up without experiencing a mother’s unconditional love.
Imagine if you never stepped foot inside a church where love was shared not just on Sundays, but every day of the week with assistance for widows, immigrants, addicts, the abused and those just down on their luck. Our church here in Florida has transformed its sanctuaries (that normally host about 30,000 every week-end) into gigantic warehouses; daily donations of food being delivered to heath care workers, first responders and families facing unemployment as a result of the Corona virus.
Imagine if you grew up without experiencing the all-encompassing love of God’s church.
If you grew up without these foundational loves, my guess is you’d spend a lifetime trying to find a way to fill that pit in your heart. While it may be too late, or simply impossible, to reconnect with a birth mother, it is never too late to run into the loving arms of a church family.
In this season of utter darkness, with both visible and invisible dangers swirling all around, remember that the rock solid love of a gracious and forgiving God is available to all who ask for it. You don’t have to climb out of the chaos of your life to seek it, you just reach out as you are..
Your family is waiting for you.
I have found a great joy in being bonded with a great church all my life. I have had to change churches because of moves or other majoy events, but I have always felt a loss as I have moved to other places and quickly found a new church family to belong to. It is wonderful to share in that way.
