My mom and I went to Target this past week to look at coffee pots. We don’t normally spend too much time discussing coffee, so it was interesting that we both shared the same issue: we brew too much and end up tossing out a good amount every morning.
Seems we both are consuming less than we used to, but we have our “formulas” and rituals so embedded in our brains that we simply haven’t adjusted them to reflect our new drinking habits. For me it’s:
three heaping scoops..
water up to level 5..
toss out the equivalent of an entire mug..
Funny how our lives can be dotted with detrimental, costly, inefficient or simply pointless habits we don’t even think about or recognize. The minute I realized my brewing habit was costing me bucks, I made the change. And while I haven’t hit the perfect proportions yet- I will.
My take-away from this observation about wasting coffee is one I hope will serve me in all areas. I want to keep an eye on potentially calcifying corners of my life..the things I do, the things I believe, the ways I behave…
I need to keep challenging myself with a renewed and ever expanding mind that is open to making changes and not stuck in old patterns..even if it means ‘suffering’ through an adjustment period of super weak or crazy strong coffee. 😉
