We watched “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” this past week-end. It was the true story of John Callahan, a young slacker/loser/alcoholic who winds up becoming paralyzed in a drunk driving accident. Naturally, he struggles horribly with the dreadful reality of his new limitations on top of his old dependence on booze. Slowly however, he lays claim to his future and becomes a successful and controversial cartoonist.
There were some rough spots in this film to be sure, but in the end it was inspiring to see how this man vanquished his inner demons and created a life in spite of his extreme handicap.
John Callahan died in 2010 at age 59.
what an inspiration and proof that we all have the opportunity to begin again
