I am privileged to know strong, determined and persistent people. They have faced, or are facing, adversities and obstacles of every kind.
One trait they all share is an understanding of the power & significance of a single step.
Facing a huge difficulty or challenge can be completely paralyzing if we try to tackle it straight out of the gate in its totality. Imagine painting every single room of an empty house..at the same time..without knowing the owner, the purpose of each space or the style of furniture that will ultimately be brought into the home. Thousands of potential options, many wildly off-base, would lead to complete chaos and confusion.
The power of a step-by-step, sequential, patient approach starts with a decision to build on that which is known, not a presumption of what may (or may not) apply or be true later. It’s fully utilizing the tools and information available today in order to take that all important next step forward. It’s choosing not to get bogged down in tomorrow’s possible variables most of which might not materialize. It’s gratefully accepting input from a close friend or small team whose opinions we deeply trust.
It’s not easy. It takes discipline. It’s a daily struggle to keep one’s mind from wandering off the path of what is and into the land of what if.. but I have seen the strength, I have seen the focus and I have seen major victories achieved one step at a time.
Great post. Thanks for the reminder!!

Absolutely – a friend and teacher once said, “break it down and make it manageable”. I try to live by those very wise words.

I always remember the saying “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” 👍 Is it getting warmer up there btw? It’s actually a bit chilly today down in Florida..which always makes me assume it’s still frozen up north..

No, it is warming up – the snow is all gone now and the sun is shining. I believe spring has sprung – around here anyway. And I love that saying – very apt!
