If you watch little kids playing on a playground, they all seem to follow the same pattern. They’ll run around, play on the equipment and chase their friends with abandon. What they will also do is run back to mom or dad every so often to “touch base.” This quick interaction reassures the child that the parent is still there, engaged, interested, watching and ready to help if needed.
God wants that same close relationship with us as we race and climb and maneuver through our busy days. It’s not by accident that He refers to himself as Abba, which literally translated means “daddy.” He wants us to come to Him as our caring dad and “touch base” for the same reason a child runs to their loving parent.
I often imagine God sitting on a park bench on the edge of my little world. To be honest, there are days when I hardly make time to check in with Him..to tell him what I’m building in the sandbox that is my life.
But when I do I am always rewarded with renewed confidence and encouragement.
