WOOF-WOOF. Most of us behave like puppies…we need external motivators. Whether it’s a reunion, vacation birthday or a wedding, having that “biscuit” dangled in front of our noses seems to give us the focus and determination needed to stick to our plan. The downside to external motivation is obvious-
what happens if the “bone” disappears?
Effective, consistent, sustainable motivation must come from within and we must stay plugged in to the ultimate reason for the effort. Taking time each morning to calibrate our day to a personal “mission statement,” a written proclamation that clearly delineates our desires and our values, is key.
A regular reminder/review of WHY our goals and objectives exist in the first place improves our chances of actually fulfilling them.
