There were so many areas of concern weighing on me recently that even my prayers were giving me an anxiety attack. So I did what I always do in these overwhelming situations, I simply said; “Lord, you know what’s going on in the lives of those I love. I’m laying all of these issues at your feet and I’m just going to thank-you for every blessing instead.”
For a few minutes I think I just said “thank-you” over and over again..and then I slowly started to visualize blessings in my life and express gratitude for every single one of them. My unease was slowly lifted and I was infused with that powerful peace that literally sweeps away fear.
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” Psalm 55:22
“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1

I have to tell you..this concept was much more difficult for me than I thought..I am a serial “urgent” and specific pray-er- esp. for my kids. I am sending up requests all day long..God must be like- “there she is..calling again!” So every time I started to default back to that over those few days of gratitude ..I just caught myself- stopped- and started saying thank-you. I was outdoors a lot (in Florida) so there was plenty of natural beauty to look at and just say thank-you for..and of course gratefulness for my family etc. It was really freeing..hard to explain..but it was cleansing..and a relief of sorts..just to say thanks- nothing more. I intend on doing this at least once a week- no prayers- no requests..just a day of thanks.

Good idea! I usually make my last prayer of the day, thanks. I need to be more mindful of thanking Him during the day.
