I did not know that the word consideration comes from the latin to contemplate..but if you think about that for a minute, it makes total sense. For us to be considerate, we need to think about, or contemplate, someone else.
Beautiful examples of profound consideration are all over the news this week embedded in Houston coverage. Many of these images will be seared in our minds forever. The “golden rule” seems to have become the law of the land as people continue to put the needs of others above their own.
It’s a powerful thing to behold..and I wish more of us (myself included) measured our words and deeds against this high standard. Sadly, many of us share the same handicap: an inability or unwillingness to take the time to consider others before ourselves. Our words are sharp, condescending and careless; our deeds self-motivated, self- promoting and self-interested. The contrast is jarring when you see the “fruit” of this selfish thinking…and yes, our “me first “attitude is glaringly obvious, even when we think it’s cleverly disguised.

Being considerate is not a zero sum game. You don’t “lose” if you consider someone else’s needs, feelings, concerns or desires. You just become a better person..
..and the world becomes a better place.

Well said, Cindy!
I notice the lack of consideration most when I’m driving, but it’s everywhere.
