My daughter called me yesterday on her way home from work. “You’ll never believe what just happened to me!” she said with an air of incredulity in her voice. She had stopped at PUBLIX to buy some groceries and pick up a cake for an event at the office today. Mid-check-out, she realized she had left her wallet at home in her gym bag.
Mortified, she quickly told the cashier.
“Don’t worry about it,” the lady said. “I’ll pay for this and you can just go to customer service next time you’re in here and give the money to them. They’ll pass it on to me.”
“I can’t do that” my daughter said in disbelief “it’s over $60!”
Again the cashier assured my daughter that it was no problem and that she was happy to help her out.
Stunned, my daughter hurried home, stuffed the cake into the fridge and sped back to the store to immediately pay back the sweet woman who so willingly came to her aid. She stopped off at the manager’s office on the way out to tell him about her extraordinary experience.
“There really are good people in the world,” I thought as I listened.
